Attorneys, as stewards of justice, are entrusted with the responsibility to champion fairness, honesty, and the rule of law. The importance of ethics in the legal profession extends beyond mere compliance with codes of conduct; it embodies a commitment to principles that safeguard the rights and well-being of individuals, maintain public trust, and contribute to the overall legitimacy of the legal system. Here are 8 seminars focusing on ethics.

6 CLE / 6 E - The question of what it means to live a good life is as old as Moses and Socrates. But in the last few years, the question has become of particular interest to the legal profession for the simple reason that, by many measures, the lives of many lawyers fall so short of the ideal. Problem drinking, depression, anxiety, loneliness, suicide – all occur at much higher levels among lawyers than among the general public, and for many, these are just the most obvious symptoms of deeper, more fundamental problems. In response, the American Bar Association has endorsed efforts to improve the profession through a new body of thought that attempts to use the methods of science to understand what it means to live well. The result has been the “lawyer well-being movement”, which advocates for changes in the profession to enable lawyers to enjoy well-being. The lawyer well-being movement is laudable for its recognition that something has gone wrong in the legal profession, but it is probably inadequate to the task of improving the lives of lawyers. Well-being cannot be engineered to occur; it always requires something more, which is not within our control. However, in the traditions of the legal profession can be found wisdom about the kinds of people we should become to enjoy a good life in the law. Vestiges of these traditions can be found in the Rules of Professional Conduct that govern the profession today. What are those traditions? How do they relate to well-being? How can a lawyer live a good life today?

3 CLE / 3 E - Meg Christensen and Chuck Kidd analyze ethical challenges arising out of today’s Legal Practice. Featuring their popular, interactive video format, this program examines a multitude of situations that can lead to potential ethics violations.

3 CLE / 3 E - Lawyers leave law firms to take positions at other firms, start their own firm, leave the practice entirely, retire, or…gulp, die, disappear or become disabled. Attendees will learn how to identify where their potential ethics and malpractice risk lies, and the systems they need to have in place Before they are “left behind.”

3 CLE / 1.5 E - This is not a “talking heads” type of CLE program. Watch and learn as six seasoned litigators argue their positions on situations that involve challenging discovery matters to our judicial panel. As an audience member attending in person, you will have the opportunity to vote as to who made the most compelling presentation or argument prior to the judges issuing their rulings. This has proven to be one of ICLEF’s most popular program formats over the years. Lynn Gray moderates and asks the tough questions of both the lawyers and the judges. Come with questions, leave with answers and practice with greater confidence!

1 CLE / 1 E / 2 CLE (NLS) - Participants will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of AI, including machine learning and natural language processing. This session will discuss how AI can be leveraged by lawyers and discuss prompts in an interactive session to show users how to train their AI tool to deliver the desired information. You will learn how to leverage AI tools to automate routine tasks, prioritize their workload, and optimize their daily schedule for better productivity. Participants will be able to modernize their legal practice making it more efficient and cost effective. And finally, ethical considerations for using AI in their practices and its potential impact on the profession. Attendees will learn how and what can be used safely and ethically.

1 CLE / 1 E - A high percentage of malpractice claims and practice management problems are caused by communication breakdown. Communication problems create dissatisfied clients, decrease productivity, cause conflict internally and externally. The growing number of communication channels only compounds the problem. We'll explain technologies and techniques that will help you improve communication, lower your stress, improve your service, generate happier clients, and lower your malpractice risk.

1 CLE / 1 E - This session will guide attendees through ethical considerations for using A.I. in their practice and its potential impact on the profession. Attendees will learn how and what can be used safely and ethically.

2 CLE / 1 E - Find Your Landing Zone is a seminar and a workshop. It is designed to motivate lawyers to prepare for a fulfilling life beyond the practice of law. Rules of Professional Conduct are pertinent to well-being and relevant to transitioning to retirement or another career. The program includes exercises, down-to-earth advice and inspiring accounts from others who have set and achieved goals and affected change in their lives. This exceptional combination of tools, advice and stories will provide motivation for attendees to plan their move to a different career; to modify their relationship with their law firm or employer so they can also pursue personal goals or to plan for a fulfilling retirement. The program is for restless lawyers—generally satisfied with life and career—but concerned that they are being shaped by their surroundings. Find Your Landing Zone will motivate lawyers to progress from thinking about what’s coming to creating a personal plan to make it happen.
