Launching a new firm can simultaneously be the most thrilling and scary thing you've ever done. The scary part is the unknown and that's exactly what this seminar attempts to eliminate. You'll get a prioritized checklist of everything that should be on your radar from hardware to software to services; and recommendations on everything from printers to scanners to backup systems to office phone systems.


We will address the following issues:

• Receive a comprehensive checklist of every tech and practice management issue you need to address when launching a new firm.

• You’ll also receive an Excel spreadsheet example budget that you can use as a template.

• We’ll explain all of the elements of your technology stack including:

- Case management platforms

- Accounting software

- Which Microsoft 365 plans are appropriate

- How to decide which PDF program to buy

- Search utilities and document management systems

• Your best options for managing and sharing electronic files

• How to address cybersecurity issues

• How to configure appropriate desktop or laptop computers + all accessories from docking stations to monitors, keyboards and mice

• Printers, scanners, multifunction machines and copiers - what you need and what to avoid (it will surprise you)

• How to back-up your stuff

• Recommended VoIP phone systems

Barron K. Henley, Esq. is one of the founding partners of Affinity Consulting Group, a legal technology consulting firm focused on automating and streamlining law firms and legal departments. He earned his B.S./B.A. (marketing and economics) and J.D. from The Ohio State University and is a member of the American, Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations, and the Worthington Estate Planning Council.


Mr. Henley heads Affinity’s document assembly/automation and software training departments. Barron is also an expert in launching new law firms, overhauling existing firms, and documenting and re-engineering law firm processes. Finally, Barron teaches continuing legal education (CLE) classes throughout the U.S. and Canada covering a wide variety of topics related to law practice management, technology, and ethics.
